Western Connecticut Military Officers Association

Program Overview

Each year, the Western Connecticut Military Officers Association (WCMOA) is proud to honor outstanding Fairfield County high school seniors who stand out from their peers in the following areas:
  1. Understands and is strongly supportive of the U.S. Constitution
  2. Has demonstrated love of country
  3. Possesses outstanding leadership potential
  4. Holds a keen interest in spreading the concepts of our democracy through community service
With the help of school administrators in the participating schools, one student who best meets the above criteria is selected from each school. Once the selectee submits his or her information and short biography to our YAA Committee, he or she is then designated a YAA Awardee and is then invited with the other school awardees to attend a military banquet in June in their honor. At the banquet, a most impressive formal military affair, the YAA Committee selects the top awardees to receive scholarship monies contributed each year by our members and local private and corporate sponsors. The YAA selection committee considers the studentís academic achievements and awards, GPA, extra-curricular school service projects/athletic activities, leadership positions, community service work, patriotic efforts, military involvement, college/military/career plans, and the studentís essay. Scholarship award amounts vary each year based on sponsorship. Parents of the awardees and a school representative are also invited as guests of the WCMOA to honor our Young American Award winners at the YAA banquet.
The Young American Award Program is the signature event of the Western CT Military Officers Association and fulfills many of our chapter goals such as stimulating love of country and our flag, supporting and defending the constitutional government of the United States, and encouraging our promising young students to be the patriotic leaders of tomorrow.

To our Young American Awardees:
Congratulations on being selected by your high school administrators as an outstanding senior student who has demonstrated an interest in perpetuating the ideals of American democracy! The criteria used to select you as the YAA awardee include your demonstrated love of country, good leadership, principles and interest in spreading the concepts of our democracy through community service. You should be proud of this distinction! The men and women of the WCMOA look forward to meeting and honoring you at this yearís YAA banquet.

You, along with the other Fairfield County awardees, are now eligible to compete for additional scholarship awards. The YAA Selection Committee will consider all the online submissions and chose the top winners. This site has been designed to assist you with this online process:
